I am Khadeshia, the creator of Akoma (Heart) Bloom Wellness, with God's guidance of course! The foundation of my business is my heart because that is where it all began for me. At a certain point in my life, I could not ignore the desires of my heart. Those desires caused me to stop working 9-5s and begin to check in on me after years of going through the motions, medicating my pain through work and even co-dependent relationships.
My business was birthed from my own healing journey. Having access to yoga and various mind, body, soul, spirit wellness practices continue to empower me to mother and doctor myself as well as parent my children in compassionate healthy ways.
When I began working through my own deep trauma and depression through meditation, breathing and yoga movement; I knew that I needed to share this practice with others. I began to understand that I was not the only person who had carried the pain of my past to the present day. There were all of these people in yoga training from all walks of life sharing their struggles and what bought them to the mat.
I myself had found the strength with the encouragement of my partner at the time, to show up for yoga class when my oldest son ran away from home, his second year of high school. This was the first time I cried on my yoga mat, and it was also when I knew I had to become a yoga teacher. That day was also the beginning of me realizing, I had more healing work to do on myself and that I had been living my life for my children, my partner and even jobs. That day on my yoga mat, I had a catharsis and a revelation all at once.
The hardest thing for me to do was to let go in a moment, where I felt I was on the brink of a breakdown, instead of spiraling down; I decided to spiral into me, with my breath, with each pose and the sensations attached that I had to allow myself to feel in that moment. I will never forget the song at the end of class as I was in corpse pose The Beatles "Let it Be" and the teacher who I still remember.
That moment reminded me that the only thing I could control was me. The next day my son was found and one of the things that mended our relationship over time was our weekly moments of meditation and prayer. It can be a challenge and challenging things that make devoting time to us seem nearly impossible. We don't get to that devotion without the necessary self-nurturing tools, rituals and or routines.
At some point in our life, we need to heal from something and or work through something. When I opened my business, I fully understood that in order to impact the world in an uplifting and positive way, I would need to start with me and then share wellness tools with everyone I served so they could focus on taking care of themselves too. It is easy to forget just how much power you have to shift the world by taking care of your mental, emotional, physical and spiritual health, when your focus is always outside of you.
What I love the most about yoga is that it offers various styles of practices and aspects of the practice that make it accessible everyone. When I had a serious car accident, I had to tap more into the meditation and breathwork aspects of yoga to heal my body, because the physical practice was not an option outside of restorative yoga.
One of the simplest ways to experience the practice is through breathing exercises. You can use breathing exercises while in bed, driving, cooking, working or just taking time out in nature to calm your nerves and relax your mind. One of the greatest missions of Akoma Bloom Wellness is to help people from all walks of life utilize holistic wellness as a form of preventative healthcare so they can begin to doctor themselves and parent themselves in a compassionate and intuitive manner.
Part of my life’s purpose is to create transformation in people’s minds and hearts by way of my own healing and through my self-work as well as my work service to those around me along with my students and clients; so that they have the tools to bring their emotions come into balance. I do this through my practice and guiding wholistic yoga classes and workshops both online and onsite that teach people of all ages and walks of life to breathe properly, get to know and nurture their physical being as well as their spiritual being.
I specialize in teaching people to cultivate their own yoga practice specific to their mental, physical, emotional and spiritual needs. I encourage my students to sit in poses for close to a minute fully engaged with their breath that they may begin to decode emotional messages that manifest in the body and use self-exploration, body exploration and breath exploration to find the way back to you.
Yoga can shift your life and overall health for the better if you commit to working inwardly as well as outwardly. A complete, consistent and connected yoga practice can guide you to discover the depth of your own power and the power you have to be your own good doctor and parent.
